Location: The Palestinian Museum

In 2022, on the 50th anniversary of the martyrdom of Ghassan Kanafani, the Tamer Institute for Community Education worked with The Palestinian Ministry of Culture to commemorate his memory through various activities, including an art workshop to create paintings inspired by his literary works. This workshop was implemented with Banafsaj, one of the Tamer youth teams, of which Mohammed Sami in Gaza was a member.
In this lecture, the writer Beesan Nateel from Gaza of the Passages Through Genocide project and the Tamer Institute will tell us about the experiences of the Banafsaj group, the relationship of the paintings created by the youth members to Kanafani’s literary works, and their creative process, which are today displayed in the main hall of the Palestinian Museum’s artistic demonstration, This is Not an Exhibition.
Nateel will also share her memories of the painter and photographer Mohammed Sami. Born in Gaza in 1999, Sami was a volunteer at the Tamer Institute, who was martyred along with around 500 other Palestinians in the Al-Ahli Arab (Baptist) Hospital massacre on October 17th, 2023.
