Make your own nay

Musical instrument-making workshop for all ages
In partnership with Bank of Palestine

Friday 21 August 2026, 18:00–20:00
Location: the Palestinian Museum
Language: Arabic

In this hands-on workshop, participants are introduced to the nay, a traditional reed flute, and explore how a simple material can be shaped into an instrument with a voice of its own.

The workshop begins with the materials needed to make a nay, before participants shape and assemble them step by step. Each participant will make a nay of their own, try it out, and listen to the sounds it produces.

Once the nay is made, the workshop opens into play and experimentation. Where does sound come from? Why do different materials sound different? Can simple things around us become music?

Join us to make your musical instrument, listen closely, and discover how simple sounds can become rhythm and music.
