Exploring the history of Armenian artisanal ceramics in Jerusalem
With historian and tour guide George Hintlian
Monday, 26 August. 16:00–18:00
Place: Jerusalem (Meeting point at Omar ibn al-Khattab Square, Jaffa Gate; tour begins at Cathedral of Saint James, then Jerusalem Railway Station, Talbiyeh Neighborhood, Jaffa Road, ending at the American Colony)
We explore the history of Jerusalem through the Armenian artisanal ceramics that adorn its landmarks, houses, and alleys. George Hintlian takes us on a two-hour tour, beginning in the 18th century, and revealing the roots of this artform in the city. We eventually move to the end of Ottoman rule and the beginning of the British mandate. We follow this path, guided by the works of Armenian ceramicist David Ohannessian, a pioneer of the artform.
