From the Land: A Clay Art Workshop with Artist Sliman Mansour
For Families and Children
Friday, April 25 | 14:00–17:00
Location: The Palestinian Museum
Open to all age groups
During the First Intifada, 39 years ago, four artists—Sliman Mansour, Vera Tamari, Nabil Anani, and Tayseer Barakat—founded the New Visions group. Their core idea was to boycott Israeli products and experiment with natural and local materials from the land and nature of Palestine. They worked with clay, flowers, henna, leather, wood, and fire, until each artist developed their own expressive language for Palestine.
Since then, boycott has remained an act of freedom. So how does a Palestinian artist boycott Israeli goods? And how does he create art using local materials?
Join us—along with your children and families—for a special workshop with renowned artist Sliman Mansour, who will be our companion and guide in this creative journey where we discover how boycott becomes an act of artistic resistance. Artist Aziz Atef will also join us in this workshop, where we will explore new materials and techniques.
What will we do during this day?
- Learn about the possibilities of working with clay.
- Hear from artist Sliman Mansour about why he returned to the land in his artistic practice.
- Learn how to choose a subject for an artwork.
- Learn how to prepare clay and how long it takes to be ready for use.
- Experiment with natural dyes like the Galilee’s indigo (Neila) used by Sliman Mansour.
- Finally, create our own artwork inspired by the artist's practice.
Do not miss this exciting experience! Join us, friends—and do not forget to register in advance, as spots are limited!
