Tobacco Pouch

A tobacco pouch made of beige cotton and linen with a square shape and embroidered in the Fallahi (peasant) cross-stitch in geometric and plant shapes. Its tatreez (embroidery) is comprised of red silk threads with tiny tatreez shapes in yellow, blue, green and other colours. Its edges are decorated with pinkish beads from which hang short silk tassels.

Bride of Isdud thobe

An Isdud wedding thobe (dress) from the Gaza area made of black handmade linen dyed with indigo stitched with a Fallahi (peasant) cross stitch made of predominately red silk thread overlapping with yellow, pink, orange, and blue. The chest panel of the thobe is triangular and embroidered with squares arranged in a triangle and surrounded by cypress etchings from above and below. Plant and geometric shapes are embroidered from the shoulders of the thobe to the end of the sleeves, ending with a cypress stitch pattern.

Buqja toiletries storer

A buqja (part of the bride’s trousseau used to store toiletries) made of purple velvet, square in shape, and embroidered with plant shapes in tahriri stitches (couching) making up a type of tatreez (embroidery) known as surma for its gilded gold threads and decorated with rhinestones.

White Rumi thobe

A white Rumi thobe (dress) from the Ramallah area made of handmade natural linen fabric and embroidered with the Fallahi (peasant) cross stitch made with predominately red silk threads. The chest panel of the thobe is embroidered with geometric, plant, and animal shapes, among them the rooster motif as seen in the middle. This rooster motif carries religious significance for Christians. The sleeves bear several plant stitch patterns to their ends, with the rooster motif in the middle.

Sirwal

Sirwal (loose trousers) made of black cotton with an elastic waistband. It is embroidered over the leg opening area near the bottom hem with plant and geometric shapes in red, orange, blue, green, and white silk threads.

Groom's handkerchief

A groom’s handkerchief is made of beige cotton and embroidered in plant and geometric shapes, including the Star of Bethlehem. Its tatreez (embroidery) is made of red, green, and blue silk. The edges of the handkerchief have silk fringes decorated with colourful beads. 3 names are embroidered: Dalal and Fahim (understood to be the names of the newlyweds) and a third illegible name.

Bedouin thobe

A thobe (dress) from the Bir al-Sabi’ area made of black linen and cotton and embroidered with the Fallahi (peasant) cross stitch made of predominately red silk thread overlapping with blue, yellow, and green colours. The chest panel of the thobe is adorned with heavy tatreez (embroidery) made up of geometric shapes, as are the shoulders and the mradan (long triangular sleeves). The lower front panel of the thobe is embroidered with broad stitch patterns made up of geometric shapes, as are the sides (al-Banayiq), which are connected with the tatreez of the front and back areas.

Burqa

A Bedouin burqa (face veil) from the Bir al-Sabi’ region. The front is made of cotton and embroidered with geometric shapes using a light soft stitch from which coins are hung. On both sides are cotton strings to be wrapped around the head. From both sides of the front hang mitwah (chains) of blue beads, onyx, coral, and amber ending in metal coins. Attached to the front from the centre is a shakkah, the front piece of the burqa that covers the face, made of Hermazi (silk) fabric and embroidered with silk threads, from which a row of Ottoman coins hangs.

Bag

A bag made of white linen and cotton surrounded with embroidered plant shapes, in the middle of which is a full flowerpot motif. Its tatreez (embroidery) is made of red, yellow, green, and blue threads. The bag has a wooden handle with camels and roses burnt-carved into it, and on it is written in Arabic (Made in Hebron).
