New Approaches to Palestinian Embroidery
In cooperation with Birzeit University VR Lab
Sunday, August 21st | 17:00 - 20:00 | Location: the Palestinian Museum
Ages: 13+
Language: Arabic and English
The Labour of Love exhibition explored Palestinian embroidery (tatreez) through the lenses of gender, class, labour market dynamics and its resulting commodification. The exhibition traced the shift of tatreez from an individual practice made with love, to a national symbol, to a product circulating in international markets.
Through VR technology, the Palestinian Museum has created a tour of the exhibition by narrating two stories inspired by the exhibition: The embroidered heritage dresses (thobes) of the First Intifada; and tatreez made by those imprisoned by the Occupation, to discover Palestine’s history and culture in an innovative interactive way.
VR equipment will be available at the sites. All that’s left for you to do is to join us, grab a pair of 3D glasses and embark on a unique journey of exploration through the exhibition
