In “The Land Question in Palestine: How Can Land Be Understood Beyond Property and Territory?” we navigated the historical, legal, and social layers of land, tracing shifts in ownership and the laws and administrative regimes that have shaped Palestinians’ relationship with their land since the Ottoman period.

Moving from understanding to protection, the conversation series now asks: How can we protect our land as settler-colonial aggression intensifies across the West Bank? What possibilities remain open? In seeking answers, the series examines Palestinian practices of land protection and explores new, creative ways forward.

Today, a frenzied Zionist campaign is being waged to impose full colonial sovereignty over Palestinian land through escalating settler violence, protected, supported, and directly enabled by the colonial authorities and their institutional and military apparatus. Steeped in a politics of elimination and erasure, this colonial policy cleanses vast tracts of land of their Palestinian owners through confiscation, closed military zones, and settler terror.

Alongside this, a coercive environment is being created to drive Palestinians from Palestine. Settler-colonial outposts continue to spread across hilltops and between Palestinian homes, ripping through Palestinian communities. Colonial violence now reaches into villages and towns and along roads, forcing farmers off their land and cutting them off from their livelihoods and water sources. Together, these forms of coercion re-engineer Palestinian space to entrench Israeli colonial control, the very order Palestinians continue to resist.
