“Imagination, postponed”, with the artist Mohammad Al-Samhouri

Family and children: Workshop series

Sunday, February 25th, 15:00-17:30

Location: The Palestinian Museum

Language: Arabic

We think of Gaza, the place that the occupation has dissected from our geographical imagination. We have been robbed of joining our friends there on a trip to the seaside, or of being in the same classroom and workspace. We have been robbed of having shared memories of place.

When we speak of Gaza, we evoke its homes, sea, fish, and hot peppers, as well as its sumood (steadfastness) in withstanding an ongoing siege. We think of its tunnels and the horizons of its strong and valiant people, its poetry and stories, and the strawberries shrivelled up and stolen by the ravages of war.

How does Gaza appear in your imagination? Your participation in this workshop will be a way to find out. Let us talk about Gaza as pictured by the Palestinian Gazan artist, and as we see it from here in the West Bank. Let us represent this conversation through the Gouache colour painting technique, on white canvases, to broaden our imagination and summon Gaza closer.
